1.6.1 Shared Contact Components

optional. if you are going to define a name then one of the following options must be utilised. If you don't define a name for your contact then you are essentially defining an anonymous contact who defines the contact methods for whichever element it is contained within.

<PersonName>
(see [*]). A <CompanyName> may be optionally used as in addition to the <PersonName>.
<CompanyName>
(see [*]). A <PersonName> may be optionally used in addition to the <CompanyName>.
<FormattedName>
if you are unaware as to whether the name that you have for the contact represents a company or an individual then you can utilise the <FormattedName> element. Please note that this is not the same as using a <FormattedName> inside a <PersonName> as in this case you know that the name represents an individual and you are just unsure as to the structuring of it, whereas in this context you have no information about the name at all.
