1.2.1 <Event>

An <Event> represents a single event and information about the event. A given event can range in size from a single performance, up to multiple performances of the same event in multiple venues. Each <Schedule> that the <Event> contains may optionally override the location, ticketing and duration as defined in the top level of the <Event>. In addition each <Performance> within a <Schedule> can also perform further overriding so there is considerable flexibility as to how a given set of performance data may be modelled which should be able to handle any real-world situation.

The following meta-data elements apply to the <Event> itself, not to the performances contained within it. They are therefore not overrideable by nested <Schedule> and <Performance> items and if this is the objective then the <PerformanceDescriptions>, <PerformanceLinks> or <PerformanceProperties> elements should be used instead.
